Gold moves higher on hopes that Iran war reescalation will be short-lived

Gold (GC=F) December futures opened at $4,436.40 per troy ounce on Thursday, September 3, 2026, up 0.5% compared to Wednesday’s closing price. The price of gold moved higher this morning, trading at $4,470.70 as of 6:53 a.m. ET.

On Wednesday, President Trump said the U.S. carried out a “very heavy attack” against Iran but also stated that the attack wouldn’t take “too long.” Traders took that as a hopeful signal that this latest military reescalation in Iran will be short-lived.

While the hopeful sentiment has helped lift gold prices this morning, Brent crude is currently priced at over $97 a barrel, as both Iran and the U.S. continue to seek control over the Strait of Hormuz.

A gold IRA is a specialty form of self-directed IRA that’s designed for gold and other precious metals.

The table below compares the main features of standard IRAs and gold IRAs.

You must work with a specialty provider that can ensure your account complies with these IRS restrictions:

  1. Storage: Your gold must be held in an IRS-approved facility.

  2. Asset types: A gold IRA can hold physical gold, silver, platinum, or palladium — but not all forms of these metals are eligible. For example, gold bullion, silver coins, and bars must meet purity requirements. Additionally, gold bars must come from approved refiners.
