The critical minerals corner is splitting this morning between a company-specific bid in antimony and a rare earth basket that’s drifting lower. That’s the tell in what looks like an isolated single-name bounce.
The VanEck Rare Earth and Strategic Metals ETF (NYSEARCA:REMX) is down 0.5% to $75.82, so the sector wrapper is slightly softer while a single antimony name runs. United States Antimony (NYSE:UAMY) stock is up 8% to $5.04, a sharp move for a small critical-minerals producer that had gone nowhere this year. Meanwhile, USA Rare Earth (NASDAQ:USAR) stock is up 3% to $17.72, adding to what has already been a stronger year for the magnet-focused developer.
Insider Buying Doesn’t Match the Timeline
The verified insider purchases at United States Antimony predate this session. Chairman and CEO Gary Evans acquired 20,000 shares at $4.92 on August 28, and director Jon Marinelli acquired 12,500 shares at $7.45 on June 15. Both were disclosed on Form 4 filings, and neither is a same-day catalyst.
No same-day filing or company announcement from United States Antimony explains today’s bid. What the market shows is concentrated buying in one antimony name while the broader rare earths and strategic metals basket is lower, which reads as a mechanical bounce in a laggard rather than a fresh news trigger.
Four Names, Four Supply Chains
United States Antimony holds a $245 million sole-source contract with the U.S. Defense Logistics Agency and supplies military-specification antimony ingots exceeding 99.5% purity from its Thompson Falls, Montana smelter and its Madero, Mexico facility. That’s a narrow, defense-anchored business with a single dominant customer.
